Gustav Klimt Exhibition at Neue Galerie New York

The Neue Galerie New York opened last month a very interesting new exhibition "Gustav Klimt: The Ronald S. Lauder and Serge Sabarsky Collections" with eight paintings and more than 120 drawings by the famous Austrian Symbolist painter.

This exhibition, unites the collections of Ronald Lauder and Serge Sabarsky, co-founders of the Neue Galerie, is the first museum retrospective of the work of Gustav Klimt ever held in the US. The art exhibition will be on view through June 30, 2008.

“Klimt’s work embodies the quintessence of fin de siècle Vienna: its richness, its sensuality, and its capacity for innovation,” said Renée Price, Director of the Neue Galerie.

Klimt (1862–1918) was one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Art Nouveau (Vienna Secession) movement and he is internationally recognized as a major figure of twentieth-century art.

Klimt's paintings have brought some of the highest prices recorded for individual works of art. In November of 2003, Klimt's Landhaus am Attersee sold for $29 million, and in 2006 the 1907 portrait Adele Bloch-Bauer I, purchased for a record $135 million by the Ronald Lauder.

The New York City Marathon - November 4, 2007

The New York City Marathon is one of the world's great road races, drawing more than 90,000 applicants. Those 38,000 runners lucky enough to be chosen to participate transverse the City’s five boroughs in pursuit of the thrill of achievement and for the enjoyment of nearly 315 million worldwide TV viewers.

The New York City Marathon race begins on at 10:00 am on Staten Island, loops through Queens and Brooklyn, goes up Manhattan, and briefly through the Bronx before returning to Manhattan for the home stretch. Early runners begin to enter Central Park at about 11:45 a.m. Anywhere along the park drive offers good viewing.

Two time defending champion Jelena Prokopcuka of Latvia and World Marathon Majors (WMM) Series leader Gete Wami of Ethiopia are among the New York City Marathon 2007 favorites. Both are aiming not only to win the race but also to claim the first-ever WMM title and its $500,000 jackpot prize.

The New York City's Greenwich Village Halloween Parade

Hundreds of giant puppets, 53 bands and thousands of New Yorkers in costume will take part in the annual New York's Greenwich Village Halloween Parade, on Wednesday, October 31, 2007. The massive event unfolds beginning at 7 pm on Sixth Avenue from Spring Street to 21st Street, and lasts until around 11 pm.

This year marks the 34th Annual New York's Village Halloween Parade. Started by a Greenwich Village mask maker and puppeteer in 1973, the Parade began as a walk from house to house in his neighborhood for his children and their friends. 25 years later, the Parade draws more than 50,000 costumed participants and spectators estimated at 2 million.

Shake Shack

Shake Shack is a simple American fast food restaurant located in Madison Square Park. Shake Shack serves great burgers in a beautiful public space and they also have a great selection of beer and wine.

Danny Meyer from Union Square Hospitality Group was partnered with the Madison Square Park Conservancy and architecture firm SITE Environmental Design to launch Shake Shack in summer 2004.

The Brighton Ballet Theater will perform music and folk dancing celebrating Russian heritage, on September 22–23, at the New York Aquarium.

The Age of Rembrandt: Dutch masters paintings exhibition

The Metropolitan Museum of Art will present, for the first time, all of the Metropolitan Museum's 228 Dutch paintings widely considered the greatest collection of Dutch art outside Europe.

The comprehensive exhibition, celebrates Rembrandt’s 400th birthday, will provide a unique opportunity for visitors to view a rich array of works dating mostly between 1600 and 1700 - landscapes, genre pictures, still lifes, marine views, portraiture, and historical and biblical paintings, by Rembrandt and other celebrated Dutch masters such as Frans Hals, Johannes Vermeer, Gerard ter Borch, Pieter de Hooch, Jacob van Ruisdael, and Aelbert Cuyp.

The exhibition will take place in 12 galleries from September 18, 2007 to January 6, 2008. The exhibition will be accompanied by the first comprehensive catalogue of Dutch paintings in the Metropolitan Museum. A two-volume set written by Walter Liedtke, Curator in the Metropolitan Museum's Department of European Paintings.

NY documentary film festival DocFest07 will open on October 24

DocFest07, the annual documentary film festival by the Paley Center for Media (formerly The Museum of Television & Radio), will open on October 24, 2007.

The one-week festival in New York will feature an exciting slate of premiere screenings - all of which will be introduced by the filmmakers and followed by the lively Q&A discussions. In addition to the slate of Premiere Screenings, DocFest2007 will feature a variety of panels and seminars exploring issues crucial to the craft and content of the documentary form—including our wildly popular Pitch Workshop.

Past Festival highlights have included the New York premieres of such acclaimed films as Marshall Curry’s Street Fight, Dan Klores’s Ring of Fire: The Emile Griffith Story, Zana Briski and Ross Kaufman’s Born into Brothels, and Ken Burns’s Jazz, among others.
